Funny satirical article about Miracle Day

This really made me chuckle: http://www.thespoof.co.uk/news/spoof.cfm?headline=s4i98495

Especially following the reactions to the link I posted on jackxianto the day before yesterday XD

Small extract:

One angry Dr Who/Old Torchwood fan said "It was too glitzy, with too many bangs and not enough aliens."

Traditional Dr Who/Old Torchwood fans like a different alien every episode, and they like their aliens to be made out of a sink plunger and a dust bin.

The new Torchwood didn't have any aliens at all. It just had dead people who wouldn't die, even when they had been involved in suicide bomb explosion. Now, as impressive as that is, its still not aliens

I have to admit that I disapprove of the way they make fun of the cheap special effects in Doctor who but apart from that it's spot on XD

I guess I'm not a traditional Who/TW fan because I like reaching arcs and long stories that tell a story instead of monster of the week and long lingering looks between a coffeeboy and his boss.

And for the record -- what's causing the Miracle? AN ALIEN.

100% agreed! I really liked the turn TW took in CoE, those kinds of stories are what I enjoy. I don't mind if it's more slow paced than the original TW. I even think that DW is incredibly fast paced and I would wish for it to slow down sometimes. But then again it's a children's show and children have a very short attention span :-D

Anyway, I really like Miracle Day so far, what about you actually? Didn't really catch whether you liked it or not. Love your icon, where is that from? =) The past couple of weeks I absolutely fell in love not only with Jack (who I liked before but not THAT much) and John Barrowman. So naturally I felt a bit upset by the badmouthing he received in the jackxianto community :-(

Honestly, I love the progression Torchwood has taken. It's always been stated that it's a dangerous job, people die all the time and no one is safe. I mean, I would be upset if Gwen died, but I would not go to the extreme that some fans have gone in the name of their favorite character. AND I LOVE MIRACLE DAY. I just do.

There's badmouthing going on for John? I don't know why. He's the nicest person on the planet. Absolutely sweetest guy you could ever meet, so accommodating to fans who treat him so, so, so badly.

And the icon is from OUT magazine! I haven't seen any scans yet, but someone emailed me that picture. :D

Exactly, that's what I was trying to tell the Ianto fangirls, that TW is about a small team with a dangerous job and everyone can die. Ianto even says so many times. But you can't reason with them, poor girls XD

I love Miracle Day, too! Can't wait for the next episode and I'm SO curious to see who that relationship was that made Jack who he is. It's exciting that we finally get to learn more about Jack =)

The Ianto fangirls were saying they are not impressed by JB and they looked down on him for saying TW is still TW in the core. I think he's right and I agree with you, he is SUCH a nice person. I saw him for the panel after the preview screening and he was sitting with his back to me (I was in the left front corner) and whenever he spoke he would make it a point to turn around to the people sitting behind him, that totally won me over (among many other things). I just love him, not in a sexual way (although he is hot!) but my heart goes out to his heart, his beautiful, kind heart <3

Yeah, you might as well not waste your breath because there's just no reasoning with that kind of madness. They have it in their head that they're right and there is just no going back on that.

That's my favorite part. Learning more about Jack. He's always been and always be my favorite character. I will follow him wherever he leads me. That's devotion. Ha.

I met him in 2008 in Birmingham after the matinee performance of "Robin Hood." We didn't think he was going to come out because he said he wasn't going to. But there he was. He was going out to dinner with Scott, but he stopped and signed every autograph, took a picture with every person who wanted one and he didn't have to. He just didn't have to do that but he did. He's an incredibly awesome person and fans should respect him.

They don't have to like what he says or agree with what he says, but respect goes a fucking really long way.

That sounds just like him <3 My housemate is a fairly successful photographer and when he heard that I was a fan of Torchwood and JB, he applied for taking portrait shots of JB. If he gets the job, he will take me with him as his assistant. I have honestly no idea how much of a chance he has in getting the job but if he does, omg *prays that it'll work out*

Jack is a tragic hero, I like how the further the show goes the more you see the serious, thoughtful side of him. He likes to put on a show, be the hero and flirt but there's more to him than that. A big heart for example, which still beats for the many people he has lost over the course of time.

Yay for Miracle Day which gives me the best of my two favourite people in TW: Jack and Gwen =) And Lauren Ambrose, who is amazing!
Ree the Magnificent.teamharkness on July 21st, 2011 09:11 pm (UTC)
FINGERS CROSSED FOR YOU GUYS. That would be fabulous. Absolutely.

This whole second paragraph is ... pretty much Jack in a nut shell. That last line, "A big heart for example, which still beats for the many people he has lost over the course of time." That's it. Completely it. You hit on it very well in that quote.

Agreed! Gwen and Jack are my ship in every capacity. Friendship, love and otherwise. And Lauren Ambrose is gorgeous. Mekhi Phifer has surprised the hell out of me with how good he is.
manikinekomanikineko on July 21st, 2011 09:27 pm (UTC)
Thanks! =)

I was surprised, too, by how much I like the character of Rex. He makes me chuckle and I love how Gwen called him a stupid stupid little man <3 But he's a good guy, still up for a power struggle with Jack but deep inside a smart man. And I bet he would risk everything for his friends. Just like Jack, only in a different way (grumbling and complaining instead of dashing)
Ree the Magnificent.teamharkness on July 21st, 2011 09:31 pm (UTC)
I really have found myself liking Rex despite not wanting to. He's being set up as this douchebag and well -- he is, but you can't help but like him. It's just who he is. He's going to be that redeeming asshole in the end that you end up rooting for without realizing it. That's my theory anyway. Ha.

Ha, I was searching for a gif that just shows someone nodding in agreement, someone good looking preferably. Or goofy looking. But I can't find any so I'll just say: Your theory sounds good to me ;-)

And now come here and let me give you a hug, you awesome fangirl <3

I'm definitely not a traditional Who/Torchwood fan, then. I mean, I love my monster of the week episodes, but I don't mind having to wait to figure out who the monster is.
manikinekomanikineko on July 21st, 2011 10:53 pm (UTC)
I don't think there is such a thing as the traditional DW/TW fan. It's just the crazy fangirls who are making a lot of noise with their whining. I prefer to be open minded about things and welcome change and development within a show. It's just boring if they replay the same concept again and again and there is still a lot to discover in Torchwood =)
